How Often Should You Do Guided Stretching?
Once a week? Three times a week? Every day? When it comes to improving flexibility, one of the most common questions is how often stretching should be performed. The answer depends on your goals and routine.
What does research say?
A systematic review of 77 studies found that stretching training improves range of motion over time. The researchers did not identify a significant relationship between the magnitude of flexibility improvements and stretching frequency, volume, or intensity across the included studies. That doesn't mean frequency is unimportant. It means the evidence doesn't establish one perfect stretching schedule for everyone.
Consistency matters
A sustainable routine is often easier to maintain than an overly demanding one. For people who struggle to make time for stretching, scheduling sessions can create structure and accountability.
Guided stretching as part of your schedule
At recovery+, guided stretching offers dedicated appointments focused on flexibility. Your recovery specialist can help you prioritize movements relevant to your goals. Guided sessions can also be complemented by independent stretching and active movement throughout the week.
Build a routine around your life
The right stretching schedule should consider your activity level, goals, comfort, and overall training routine. Rather than focusing on an arbitrary number of sessions, begin with a plan you can maintain.
